Extension of State Moratorium on Evictions; Update on Federal Legislation

Recently, Governor Whitmer extended the moratorium on residential evictions through June 11, 2020, due to the continued economic fallout from the pandemic and expiration of a prior executive order. Landlords may not issue 7 day demands for possession, and there are very limited circumstances in which a tenant can be removed from their premises. In addition, there is legislation currently pending to extend the CARES Act moratorium on evictions to all rental units of any kind, and to extend this moratorium for a period of twelve months.
